About the event

The National Organization for Women, South Dakota Chapter will host the 2019 West River Women’s March, a march and rally that addresses women’s rights on national and local levels. The march begins on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 1 pm at Central High School and ends at the Memorial Park Bandshell in Rapid City, SD.

This is the third annual West River Women’s March in Rapid City and the first one hosted by NOW, SD, along with its cohost, the Black Hills Center of Equality. The 2019 West River Women’s March will begin with a .7-mile march from Central High School and into Memorial Park. After lining up along 5th Street with our signs and chants, attendees will conclude the march at the Memorial Park Bandshell to listen to a diverse lineup of speakers.

Our theme for the 2019 South Dakota West River March is “Diverse Women, Diverse Communities.” We come in all shapes, colors, ages, nationalities, sexualities, gender identities, class statuses, abilities, religions, and backgrounds. This march will showcase the compassion, resilience, and strength of our diverse communities of women in West River South Dakota.

The purpose of this march is to raise our voices in solidarity and in strength. We are speaking for us, for our sisters and wives and mothers and daughters, for the women who have come before us, for the women and girls who were taken from us too soon. We are speaking to our politicians, to our community members, to those who have silenced and harmed us, to our partners and families and loved ones, to one another. We are speaking to listen and be heard.

Through our differences, we learn from one another,

support one another, unite, and become stronger.
